It boggles my mind how creative some people are! After attempting my own little ornament (instructions to make your own Paisley Snowfake here) I went googling. The results made me feel unbelievably inadequate in the craft department but also supremely proud of how resourceful people are becoming in wake of the environmental crisis we are all facing. Here are my favourtie five DIY ornaments that I found in my travels…
Recycled Book Page Bird Ornament, by Stephanie Lynn
Well isn’t that just the sweetest! By Stephanie Lynn’s recycled bird ornament is so sweet and fairly simple to make. For the instructions (including a template) see this link. She has used recycled book pages in a few other ornaments as well, such as a flower and split sphere.
Cutest. Wreath. Ever.
What a gorgeous idea! Ties for only 50cents at most op-shops and out of that you create a wreathe that you can keep forever. It is a bit zany but perfect if you don’t want the standard Christmas decoration or are just a bit left of centre yourself! Instructions are found here at the Good Housekeeping website.
Twiggy Skates, by Michele Made Me
By far my favourite DIY ornament!!! Michelemademe is a crafting genius and these are so cute I could die. She has used sections of twigs to make little iceskates. Not for a novice of home crafts but worth the attempt if you are keen to be the King or Queen of your crafty friends. See instructions.
Felt and Burlap Owl, By Womans Day
Everyone loves an owl. Nuff said. Instructions and template for this gorgeous little burlap creature are here.
Mini Christmas Tree Paper Ornaments, by The Sweetest Occasion
This versatile little tree just makes me smile! The Sweetest Occasion is a gorgeous blog and this mini Christmas tree is one of the best innovations on there. It can be made with old book pages, newspapers, magazines or comics… or any other paper you can think of recycling! For instructions go see this link.
And of course, if those wonderous creations don’t all take you fancy, you could always have a go at my Paisley Snowflake invention! Have fun with your crafting.
These are all fantastic!
I also made an Ice Castles reference on the Twiggy Skates. :) “Daaaddy?…”
Pingback: A Simple Eco Christmas Ornament | Olive on Blonde
May I simply say what a comfort to find somebody who actually understands
what they’re talking about online. You definitely know how to bring a problem to light and make it important. More people really need to check this out and understand this side of the story. I was surprised you are not more popular given that you definitely possess the gift.
Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a sea shell and gave
it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She
put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it
pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this
is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!
Wow, amazing blog layout! How long have you been blogging for?
you make blogging look easy. The overall look of
your site is excellent, let alone the content!
Hi there! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was wondering if you
knew where I could find a captcha plugin for my comment form?
I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having problems finding one?
Thanks a lot!
Hello there,
I don’t think I am using any specific captcha plugin… just the standard comment widget?
Sorry if that doesn’t help… I’m not overly tech savvy! :)
Good Luck

My partner and I absolutely love your blog and find the majority of
your post’s to be exactly what I’m looking for. Does one
offer guest writers to write content to suit your needs?
I wouldn’t mind writing a post or elaborating on a number of the subjects you write related to here. Again, awesome web log!

Hello! I hope you don’t mind but I decided to submit your weblog: http://oliveonblonde.com/2011/12/12/my-fave-diy-christmas-ornaments/ to my online directory website. I used, “My Fave DIY Christmas Ornaments | Olive on Blonde” as your site title. I hope this is alright with you. However, if you’d
like me to change the title or perhaps remove it entirely, e-mail me at jameydowd@gmail.

Hi outstanding blog! Does running a blog similar to this take a
great deal of work? I’ve very little expertise in computer programming but I had been hoping to start my own blog soon. Anyway, should you have any recommendations or techniques for new blog owners please share. I know this is off topic however I simply wanted to ask. Appreciate it!
